ITA developed the ATF Reference Library to provide electronic versions of laws, regulations, and internal directives used by ATF inspectors and agents in the course of their duties. ITA digitally converted thousands of pages of text and images into digital searchable archives. In addition, the interface was custom tailored to the needs of the ATF users, maximizing productivity.
ITA also created a photo-realistic, immersive, multimedia library environment to allow users to easily and intuitively access the Library’s contents. Furthermore, ITA authored an interactive multimedia tutorial providing one hour of training on accessing, retrieving and utilizing the Reference Library features.
Initially, 2500 first edition discs were distributed to ATF personnel nationwide, increasing to 3800 by the later editions due to the product's popularity. Distribution media changed to DVD-ROM from CD-ROM to accommodate continuous content increases. Additional functionality has been added in subsequent editions of the Reference Library. Electronic forms capability was implemented, allowing users to access Microsoft® Word versions of commonly used ATF forms. The Explosives Multimedia Database was added to give agents and inspectors a searchable resource of photos and data.
